Extreme Weather Centers
Bitter cold or very high temperatures are more than an inconvenience; they pose a serious threat to health and safety. Nassau County has many services available to help residents during extreme weather conditions to ensure no one is left out in the cold or extreme heat.
The County operates several Extreme Weather Centers during daytime and early evening hours, available for anyone who needs to get out of the elements on days of extreme weather. Contact information (date, name, phone contact) will be requested and recorded in a log book in accordance with Covid requirements. Additional facilities are opened as needed including Senior Centers, libraries, and Park Administration buildings. Extreme Weather Centers locations throughout Nassau County are outlined below.

Nassau County’s Extreme Weather Centers are available for anyone who needs to cool down in the air-conditioning on days of extreme temperatures, which we anticipate through Tuesday. We will be following the state’s guidelines for cooling centers to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Anyone who arrives without a mask will be provided one. Extreme Weather Centers locations include:

Homeless Hotline for Overnight Shelter
If you see someone who may need shelter overnight, do not hesitate to call the Nassau County Winter Homeless Hotline (1-866-WARMBED). Nassau County’s Emergency Shelter Relief Program is open seven days a week both day and night. The Emergency Night Service (ENS) opens at 6pm. ENS handles nighttime WarmBed calls. Employees from the Department of Social Services (DSS) will make appropriate referrals and provide shelter placement and
transportation for anyone in need. The program continues through March 31st.
