Deputy Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello and the Nassau County Legislature voted today to approve funding for two major storm water quality improvement projects in the Town of North Hempstead.

The first Inter-Municipal Agreement project will allow the Town of North Hempstead to purchase, install, and maintain 100 catch basin inserts throughout the Town. These inserts will improve the storm water drainage system while protecting the surface water quality along the North Shore.

The second project will allow the Town of North Hempstead to use Nassau County funding to design and construct a storm water treatment system to help remove excess sediment and other residue from collecting along the harbor at Manorhaven Beach and the North Sheets Creek.

The County will reimburse the Town using funds from the 2004 & 2006 Environmental Bond Acts. To date Environmental Bond Act project has installed over 1,800 catch basin inserts throughout the County leading to a significant improvement in storm water quality.
