[ARCHIVED] Mangano Helps Keep Doors Of Garden City Hotel Open For Business

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano and the Nassau Industrial Development Agency (IDA) today announced the approval of an economic development compact that will assist the new owners of the Garden City Hotel to move forward with a $26 million complete cosmetic and technological renovation of the 272-room iconic property. The project is expected to result in the creation of 24 new permanent full-time equivalent jobs within three years — the hotel now has 265 employees — and 30 full-time equivalent construction jobs over a year of construction, which is expected to begin immediately. The project will generate economic benefits to the county of $1.75 million.

“Nassau County values both the historic and economic significance of the Garden City Hotel and I am extremely pleased that my economic development team is working with the hotel’s new owners to continue its tradition of excellence,” said County Executive Mangano. “With tourism and economic activity on the rise, its critical that visitors can spend the evening at a modern home-away-from-home in Nassau County.”

Today, the Garden City Hotel is a top tourist destination. Guests have included Presidents, foreign heads of state and world-famous entertainers and it serves annually as the headquarters hotel of the Belmont Stakes, among other events. It is the only Long Island member of Preferred Hotels & Resorts group.

New York developers Morris Moinian and Morad Kalimian jointly own the hotel.
