(MELVILLE, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislature Deputy Minority Leader Arnold W. Drucker (D – Plainview) joined leaders of Long Island’s anti-hunger movement and his colleagues in government at the Island Harvest food bank in Melville on Wednesday, April 23 at a kick-off rally for the annual “Stamp out Hunger” food drive. He is pictured above with board Chairman Stephen J. Juchem and Randi Shubin Dresner, Island Harvest’s President and CEO.
Each year, letter carriers across the country head out on their routes on the second Saturday in May (this year on Saturday, May 10) to collect donations of non-perishable food items to benefit local food pantries. Since launching in 1993, the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has become the nation’s largest one-day food drive, helping to fill the shelves of food banks in cities and towns throughout the United States.
“At a time when draconian federal cuts are undermining the operations of local food pantries such as Island Harvest, efforts like Stamp Out Hunger are more essential than ever in the fight to combat food insecurity in Nassau County and across America,” Deputy Minority Leader Drucker said. “On May 10, I encourage everyone who is able to donate to ‘nourish Long Island’s future’ by leaving a donation of non-perishable food items at your mailbox. Let's work together to make a difference!”
