(MINEOLA, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Olena Nicks (D – Uniondale) was sworn to represent the residents of the Second Legislative District during an inaugural ceremony held on Monday, March 10. District 2 is comprised of the communities of Uniondale, Westbury, New Cassel and portions of Hempstead Village. After her special election victory on Tuesday, Feb. 25, Legislator Nicks will serve the remainder of the term of Siela A. Bynoe, who departed the Legislature after being elected to the New York State Senate.

Prior to Monday’s committee meetings, Legislator Nicks was sworn in by Nassau County Legislature Minority Leader Delia DeRiggi-Whitton as family, friends, supporters and colleagues from the Uniondale Fire Department – where she has volunteered for more than 14 years and achieved the rank of Second Lieutenant – looked on and celebrated.

“I am incredibly honored to be representing Legislative District 2 – which encompasses the communities where so many friends, family members and neighbors live,” Legislator Nicks said. “Many of you who are sitting here today know the work and advocacy I have put in the community, and I look forward to working with this legislative body to make sure that the residents of Nassau County are represented by their government.”
