Koslow Secures $100,000 in FY 2025 Capital Plan For Essential Upgrades to Merrick FD Equipment

(MERRICK, N.Y.) – Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) secured $100,000 in bond authorization in Nassau County’s Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Infrastructure Plan to fund the Merrick Fire Department’s pursuit of essential equipment upgrades.

The Wednesday, April 23 vote to allocate the funds as part of a $1.3 million package of capital plan funding and bond authorizations for 14 public safety agencies represents a major victory for the Minority Caucus. Democratic lawmakers successfully leveraged their votes on the capital infrastructure plan – which requires a 13-vote supermajority to pass - to end the Blakeman administration’s more than yearlong freeze on first responder grants and other crucial community projects for districts represented by Democratic legislators.

“There is no such thing as a Democratic fire or a Republican fire – there are just fires, and we need to set politics aside and do everything we can to keep these brave volunteer first responders safe when they are serving and protecting the public,” Legislator Koslow said. “This victory secures vital funds to support the men and women of the Merrick Fire Department and sends a clear message that the Minority Caucus will always stand up for what is right when it comes to public safety and our first responders.”
