(NORTH MERRICK, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Seth I. Koslow (D – Merrick) partnered with assessment expert Jeff Gold, a former member of the Nassau County Board of Assessors and a former commissioner of the Assessment Review Commission (ARC), to host an in-person assessment grievance workshop at the North Merrick Public Library on Tuesday, Feb. 25.
During this workshop – Legislator Koslow’s second in-person workshop this cycle and fourth overall during this grievance period - Gold walked dozens of taxpayers who disagree with their assessment through how to navigate the online grievance process and dispute their assessment.
Since the time of this workshop’s initial scheduling, the deadline to file a grievance was extended to Tuesday, April 1.
“There is absolutely no downside to filing a grievance – and when you see how the assessment system has been so badly damaged by the Blakeman administration’s decision to freeze the tax rolls year after year, grieving is the most powerful tool at a homeowner’s disposal to protect themselves from being overtaxed,” Legislator Koslow said. “I am grateful to Jeff for his commitment to educating the public about how to exercise their rights, and I was thrilled to see that so many homeowners took advantage of our free workshop.”
