[ARCHIVED] Legislator Mulé Commemorates Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Legislator Mule - Baldwin MLK Service 2020

(BALDWIN and OCEANSIDE, N.Y.) - Nassau County Legislator Debra Mulé (D - Freeport) commemorated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day at two events dedicated to celebrating the renowned civil rights leader’s life and advocacy.

Legislator Mulé visited Baldwin’s Second Baptist Church (above) on Sunday, Jan. 19 for the 35th annual observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ecumenical Service. The event, which was organized by Nassau County Executive Laura Curran and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration Committee of Nassau County, Inc., featured a performance by the Baldwin High School Chamber Singers.

On Monday, Jan. 20 (pictured below) Legislator Mulé joined South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside for their “Vision 2020: Beyond the Dream” celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day - an observance that included tributes to the late U.S. Congressman Elijah Cummings and groundbreaking singer and actress Diahann Carroll.

“Faced with widespread, intolerable discrimination in America, Dr. King’s campaign of non-violent resistance invigorated our nation’s journey toward liberty and justice for all,” Legislator Mulé said. “As we remember Dr. King’s belief that ‘the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice,’ we must remain steadfast in our efforts to carry forth his mission and achieve true and lasting equality.”
